A vicarious spring break

After having a particularly strong coffee with Laura on Saturday night at Arik’s hockey game, I found myself perusing the Internets until about 5am Sunday morning.  So instead of doing dishes and finishing clean up, I woke up at 11 am, a mere 30 minutes before Emilie and Charlotte arrived from the airport.

*cue dramatic orchestra sequence*

I scrambled to get dressed and zoomed off to the SF airport.  Thankfully, traffic wasn’t horrible.  Also thankfully, they had check bags because by the time I called Emilie about 10 minutes away, they had already landed.

I hadn’t seen Emilie in almost a year and Charlotte since September.  Sometimes, it just too hard to keep up with everyone.  We’re not only in different parts of the US but the world as well.  No one really know what’s going to happen next because we’re not settled down.

A quick trip to Le Zinc for brunch to celebrate Charlotte’s 22nd birthday.  We ended up shopping at Ambiance and a couple of other stores in Noe Valley. Next: shopping at the Ashby flea market and shopping in the sun on College Avenue.

I bought a really pretty green dress and a bag at Ashby for like $10.  I thought it was really odd that I got the bag down from $15 without even a haggle.  Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that I was wearing my new green dress.  hehehe. :)  On College, Emilie and I both ended up getting Charlotte last minute birthday cards from the same series.  I wish I took pictures because they were so cute.  Mine had a penguin on the front, and Charlotte laughed that how I could make the exact same expression as the penguin.

At five, we went to 7-Eleven and got slushies, spicy hot dogs, um… string cheese and sat on the bench across the street to chow down.

It was really sunny outside and we were both squinty, especially me with the really Asian eyes. :)

We got home and made the most delicious pasta with just cherry tomatoes, sundried tomatoes, mozarella, basil and parmesan.  It was nice to have some wine, eat too much and pass out.

Day 2:

I woke up early at 7am to get to work.  Emilie, Charlotte and I went to grab dim sum for lunch at the place on Commercial that Seher had recommended.  None of us felt like we ate that much food, but we were stuu-uu-uuuuufffed.  I even had them try chicken feet for the first time.  I know it sounds gross, but it is del.icio.us!! with an extra delicious! :)

Skip to after work, I made a quick trip to SF State University and sold my motorcycle boots.  It sucks, but I went from loving motorcycles to not being able to stand the sound.  Emilie said that I’ll get over it one day, but no point in keeping emotional landmines in the house.

(ewwww… side note: I just saw the ‘alternate’ answer to Dirty Dancing on Family Guy, where Patrick Swayze gets licked in the ear by a dirty ditry guy in prison for sleeping with a 16 year old… ewwwww… okay, I’m done.)

We drove to the Golden Gate Bridge, over to the Fillmore, Golden Gate Park and pretty much all over.  Emilie said that I know too much about San Francisco… hahah (so not true!).

Emilie was talking on the phone to her boyfriend at the time, but it doesn’t look like it thanks to some clever Charlotte positioning.  I don’t know why, but I feel like they look so French in this picture.

I ended up taking the wrong exit and being forced to take the Golden Gate bridge.  An extra $5 I didn’t need to spend, but on the bright side, we ended up at the “vista point” for the first time.  You could see the entire city.  It was too cold to get out and we were hungry, but I definitely want to go back next time, especially with the parents on a clear day! :)

Dinner involved 5 slices of pizza in the Haight.  We thought an average of 2 slices per person was just right, but it ended up being soo much food.  I gave my jacket to Emilie, and she looks like an adorable lil munchkin. :)  We went to some random bar in Upper Haight and they had some yummy punch.  I forget to take pictures, but Charlotte and I had Dark and Stormies and Emilie had an Girl Scout Cookie something or other.  The bartender, who we decided was a bit too interested in himself, came over and gave us a round of free drinks for Charlotte’s belated birthday.  It was called upside down keylime cake.  It was yummy.

At 10, we were exhausted.  So we stopped by the lake, had some scary people pull up in front of us and then left.  We had chicken.  hehehe.  Charlotte couldn’t stop laughing.  Emilie said that Charlotte had no eyes, and Charlotte squealed back that, “Yes, I do.  Look!”

We ate leftover pasta and went to bed.

Day 3:

I got up late but got to work at 9.  Thankfully the traffic was really light going into the city.  Actually it was true all last week, and I have no idea why…  Is it because it’s starting to be summer?  People aren’t used to daylight saving’s time?  What?

Lunch involved yummy sandwiches at Harrington’s.  Here’s a picture of the empty plate that had apple pie a la mode.  We ate too fast, so this was all I got a picture of.

After work, I ended up seeing Parry and Mandy in the elevator at 5pm.  I love that SHIFT encourages workers to leave on time, but it was still a bit odd to be in the elevator with them.  I felt scandalous leaving on time instead of at 5:30 or 6:30. Lol.

Charlotte and Emilie ended up at Vesuvios, which is this really chill bar in North Beach.  Really funny that I spend most of my time in North Beach at night and vice versa for the times Emilie visited.  She loves the place and I end up hating it.  North Beach turns completely different at night, as does the Mission and half a dozen other places in San Francisco.

We were drinking and decided to take a break outside.  Some guy was taking photographs and said that my dress, green and a red wrap, was great with the colors on the wall, so I ended up being his test subject for a couple of shots.  I never got his information, so I’ll never know how those pictures turned out.  But of course, M and Char ended up teasing me for like 5 minutes.  It was flattering.  My hair… was not. haha.

Emilie got an adorable hair cut, inspired by Katie Holmes.

She’s soooo cute!!!!

We had dinner at Na’an and Curry, a great Pakistani chain in the Bay.  Everything was delish, especially the Paneer Na’an.  I never thought that I’d actually like paneer, but I was wrong!

I found a few events in the city going on Tuesday, so we decided to check them out.  I took them to the Mission, dropped by the Elbo Room- too dark and Double Dutch.  Had a couple of drinks and again was with a bartender who absolutely thought he was adorable.  We didn’t.  I think they were tired from walking around all day, and I was just plain exhausted.  I love having them over, but a full day from 7am to 1 or 2 am on a daily basis was starting to take a toll.  We talked a bit.  I suggested we hang out in Oakland, so we drove to the Easy Lounge on Lakeshore.  It was closed. :(  So we found the Lucky Lounge on Grand, which actually was really pretty and nice.  Char and I had beers, but by that point, we were more than ready to pass out.

So we came back home, I downloaded pictures from their cameras and went to bed.

Day 4:

*tear*  I woke up at 8am because I was so tired.  So we said our goodbyes and said that hopefully, my broke ass will visit them in Nice this summer.

Emilie let me know that they landed.

I got home, and they had folded up the air mattress, pillow case, etc. … And when I got to my bedroom, I was thinking, “Thank god, they didn’t come in here.  My place is a mess.”  But right by my pillow was a bar of Lush massage bar and bath soaking glittery thing.  It was soooo cute. :)

I miss them already.

.

So that was the M and Char visit.  I miss Spring Break, but at least, they came to celebrate with me!
