My job function at work is starkly different than anyone at the agency. Everyone else focuses on public relations, media relations, award submissions and a list of way too long things that somehow all get to clients on time and pretty darn perfect. My job is to do promotions, sales and PR for the company. Whether it’s helping on a new business proposal, working on the website and blogs, helping clients on special one-off graphics requests or playing around with our SEO, my day is a huge jumble of various, and often disconnected, projects. I work with my peers at all levels and have a toe throughout the company (is that how the idiom goes?).
My point is I love my job, my coworkers and my manager. So this entry is NOTHING about where I work, as much as work in general. None of the following words are associated with the company or my professionalism.
If you ever read this for judgment purposes, please recognize that I’m entitled to whine and pretty much act like a 4-year old on a blog. Yes, it’s public information, but it also has nothing to do with my work ethic and it’s a personal blog. :) [I'm aware of the reprecussions.]

There is this one particular person, who drives me completely insane. We’re going to name her SuperManatee1. Given the premise that most people don’t do what I do, don’t know what I do and don’t seem to care, SM1 decides that clearly my time is just so completely free. Without notice SM1 expects me to stop everything at the tip of a hat to help her with the most inane computer problem. Seriously, did you not learn word processing in high school? Sometimes SM1 likes to surprise me by simply saying the problem out loud, expecting me to grovel at her first beckoning. I’ve tried to ignore SM1, but the person’s tone becomes impossibly annoyed and agravated when SM1 actually has to say my name. Sorry, if you say something out loud to no one in particular, don’t get angry that I don’t respond to your stupid question about formatting a picture. I say stupid b/c we’ve gone over this, so it’s not ignorance; it’s sloth. What’s the most lovely is when SM1 drops by my desk and expects me to stop working and help SM1 make a tiny change in a Word document. Sweetheart, your writing’s not that great; I know because I edit your work. That one phrase change isn’t going to morph the entire paragraph, but thanks for wasting 10 minutes of my time.
Pause: let me interject with a novel thought. I like helping people. In fact, Jenn at work calls me the computer guru (trust me, I’m not), and I’m always running over to help her. Except she asks nicely, “If you have a moment, could you help me with this?” or “Hey, do you know how to fix this problem? Sorry I keep bugging you.” *laugh*… That’s perfectly fine. Respect that I have things to do, and I will respect you by teaching you how to crop a freakin’ picture.
The condescending attitude with which SM1 approaches me is laughable. I know comparing is a bad habit, but please indulge me for a brief moment:

I went to a better university. No really. You went to a good Cali state school. Congrats. But it’s not #4 in the nation nor does it have the #1 business school.
-
I get paid more. Considerably more.
-
Despite your ’stress’ filled life, I probably manage more programs, projects and clients than you. You have three or four clients? Everyone at the agency’s my client. I put out wildfires every day, big and small. My to-do list is rarely below one page, single spaced.
-
AEBE (all else being equal), we’re at the same level w/in the agency. <scandal redacted>
-
My wardrobe? Paid for by me. Yours? When is your mommy visiting again?

I don’t feign stupidity to hid laziness. If you don’t want to do it, tell me, and I’ll say yes or no depending on my to-do list. Don’t waste my time having to teach you, when you’re going to pull the same BS next time. (At least when Gir does it, it’s cute!)

(Gir from Invader Zim)
I really hope that one day SM1 will realize that my job is just as important as SM1’s, and I’m not support staff and certainly not your subordinate. With a little respect and consideration, I’m sure we can work this out.
Feels good to get it out.
